Gonzalo & Sofia Garcia Elementary School is Canutillo ISD's fifth elementary school and opened its doors to students in March, 2008. Located in the farmlands of the Upper Valley, the school serves neighborhoods inside and outside El Paso City Limits.

The school was built using funds from the 2006 bond election and opened in response to increased enrollment in the area. GES is named after one of the District's founding fathers and original CISD Board of Trustees members, Gonzalo "Chalo" Garcia, as well as his wife Sofia. The modern campus is reflective of the architecture of other CISD elementaries, but still retains its own unique look. GES is also home to Sofia's Garden, a rose garden planted in honor of Sofia Garcia.

GES prides itself in its efforts to focus on excellence and parental involvement.
