The school was built using funds from the 2006 bond election and opened in response to increased enrollment in the area. GES is named after one of the District's founding fathers and original CISD Board of Trustees members, Gonzalo "Chalo" Garcia, as well as his wife Sofia. The modern campus is reflective of the architecture of other CISD
GES prides itself in its efforts to focus on excellence and parental involvement.
